Stop dog litter in Limerick City

Published

on

Did you hear the great radio debates about the issue of dog litter in Limerick this week? Most people thought dog litter was unacceptable and that owners should carry bags to clean up after their dogs. There was a great interview with wheelchair athlete Gerogina Lubek on why she has to wear gloves when training… dog owners should think of others.

You can buy enough bags to clean up after a dog for a year for a fiver – and shops have new posters up to show that the bags are for sale. There’s a big facebook campaign where you can post photos of your favourite pooch and new stickers on all the public bins saying ‘Any Bag, Any Bin’.

It’s nice to see the people from Limerick Animal Welfare getting involved as well – they know that responsible dog owners make good dog owners. They are now stocking dog bags in their brilliant shops. The Tidy Towns groups who were involved in the wonderful Community Challenge last year are also taking the initiative and going door to door with leaflets to remind their neighbours not to let their dogs destroy their greens.

Dogs make great pets and we all love to see a nice dog but none of us should have to worry about what we’re stepping in. Let’s show that Limerick loves animals and people too. Go to www.Facebook.com/StopLimerickDogLitter for more info.
