Strictly Care to Dance at the Movies, a fundraising event, will take place Saturday 28th November 2015 at the South Court Hotel Limerick at 8pm.

All proceeds raised from this event are going to three Limerick charities; Milford Hospice, Cliona’s Foundation and Baby Michael’s Trust Fund.

This project came about when a Committee member, Ger O Connell, lost his brother Matt to Cancer last November. Ger had seen first hand the hard work and dedication that all members of staff from Milford had given, helping Matt in his final weeks while also being a support network for the family. Ger wanted to give something back to these wonderful people as a Thank You.

Having explored the different options for fundraising events, and looking over Matt’s life, one thing came to mind. Dancing. Matt taught so many people how to dance over the years it was only fitting that money be raised through dancing.

The name ‘Strictly Care of Dance at the Movies’ was chosen because the three charities that will be helped are all about offering care. And an ‘at the movies’ theme was thought to be an especially good idea as so many people love the movies.

Cliona’s Foundation, an organisation which helps families with terminally ill children and offers them financial support, are the only charity in Ireland that offer this service to families. It is for non medical expenses.

Baby Michael’s Trust Fund was set up in aid of Michael, a 3-year-old little boy with neurotransmitter disorder. He is the only child in the country with this disorder. Michael’s muscles both internal and external are effected and every day is a struggle for him and his family. He needs 24 hour care and with the huge cost of medical expenses on a daily basis.

A wide range of people will be partaking in this night and a great mix of people with such good hearts that are giving up the next 10 weeks of their lives while they rehearse their dance routine to help these charities out.

The MC on the night will be RTÉ radio one broadcaster Lorcan Murray. Lorcan has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is well able to engage with the audience and have some fun.

The celebrity Judges on the night are TJ Ryan, Limerick senior hurling manage, Richard Lynch, I Love Limerick, Celia Holman Lee, Limerick’s fashion icon and Leanne Moore, Limerick beauty queen and Eurovision singer.

Tickets for this event are now on sale in The South Court Hotel Limerick, St Ailbes Credit Union Pallasgreen and Caherconlish offices, from the dancers and committee members.

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
