Student Enterprise Awards 2012 in the Strand Hotel

Last Tuesday, Limerick’s budding entrepreneurs took to the Strand Hotel for Limerick’s 2012 Student Enterprise Awards. Students from eight different schools in the city took part in this exciting programme that allows them the opportunity of taking their initiative and using it to create new and exciting products and services. The Limerick City Enterprise Board (LCEB) received 80 entries from mini companies, 27 of which were then put through to the Limerick City final. Three of these groups were from the junior category and 24 from the senior. A creative and impressive standard was evident among each of the final projects such as video games, artistic portraits and fitness classes. Entertainment was provided by Limericks own Conor J Ryan who was recently took part in RTE’s Voice of Ireland competition. The winners from the Junior Category were from Gaelcholaiste. Daniel Enright, Oisin Cross and Brian O Riordan who created a particularly innovative and useful project called ‘Odour Abs’. The idea came to them whilst doing science homework when they learned that charcoal absorbs odor, from there they created odour absorbers and sports bag fragrances. The boys proved that hard work and determination pays off spending weekends and mid term breaks creating their product. Pink Lilly Cupcakes created by sisters from the Salesians, April and Robyn O’ Brien won in the Senior Category. This idea had come from a personal love of baking as they both enjoyed it when they were younger and were now inspired by shows such as ‘Cake Boss’. The girls bake delicious and wonderfully decorated Cup Cakes for every occasion. Both groups will represent Limerick City in the County & City Enterprise Boards’ National Final in Croke Park Dublin on April 18th next. On behalf of I Love Limerick I would like to wish both groups every success in the final and the future.
