The new mural on the University of Limerick City Campus building provides a colourful backdrop adding to the festive vibe.

Creative production specialists Milestone Inventive are co-ordinating the event.

The first of four fun days takes place on Saturday, June 3 with activities that include Insta Bingo, Free Children’s Art Workshop, Street Games, and an Ice-cream Stand.

More entertainment along Honan’s Quay will include Libra Strings – a teenage classical strings octet, Music Generation’s Limerick Voice, Face Painting, Kids Disco with DJ Will Softly, Stilt Walkers and Circus Skills, as well as Hot Jazz Quintet – Jazz fusion led by John Daly.

Additional fun days are being organised for Saturday, July 1, Saturday, August 5, and Saturday, August 26.

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Francis Foley said, “As the school holidays begin, ‘Summer at Honan’s Quay’ gives people an additional space to enjoy in a key riverside location at the heart of Limerick city. The planned activities, street games and fun days will all add to a festive feeling in the city throughout the summer months. This is a great initiative and I hope to see people take full advantage of this space.”

Director of Service for Planning, Environment and Place-Making, Vincent Murray said, “This exciting Public Realm initiative will showcase and promote the use of this riverside site.

The planned events will create a festive atmosphere for both young and old to enjoy. Last year the ‘Limerick Urban Forest’ event was well received by the public and we will replicate and improve upon this success.”

The road at Honan’s Quay will be closed from June 1 to September 1 to promote safe public use and enjoyment of this riverside site.
