Swap N Serve, a new community project, sees Limerick youth give back to those in need “no questions asked”
Swap N Serve, a new community-based project organised by a group of Limerick young people, has set out with one clear goal: to give back and help those in need “no questions asked”.
The project will see the group of young people promote sustainability, help people in the community, and reduce waste — all while connecting with others in a positive, youth-led space.
On August 30th, the team will be handing out free clothes to anyone who could use them, “no questions asked”, from warm jackets to everyday wear, everything is completely free.
Organisers say, “The community can get involved by donating their gently used clothes, ensuring they find a new home where they’re needed most. Together, we can make a real difference—one swap at a time.”
In the weeks leading up to the event, people donate clothes they no longer need by contacting the group online or by dropping off at Abundant Life Christian Church, Henry Street. Then on event day, everyone is welcome to come swap and take home new (pre-loved) clothes for free, with the group saying, “No money involved, just community support and sharing.”
David Hackett, Event Director and aspiring entrepreneur, believes the clothes swap is more than an event and that “it’s an example” of how united the community can be.
David said, said, “As a young entrepreneur from Limerick, I’ve always been inspired by visionaries like Steve Jobs, and I aspire to make a lasting impact in the same way. Swap n Serve is deeply personal to me — I’ve grown up in Limerick City all my life, and I want to show the world the talent, drive, and unity our community has. This event isn’t just an event , it’s an example.”
The event takes place on Saturday, August 30, at the Abundant Life Christian Church, Henry Street, and is open to people of all backgrounds. In a bid to reduce waste, the organisers have said that all clothes which are not taken on the day will be donated to local charities.
