Limerick charities among 42 charities across Ireland are set to benefit from Sysco Ireland Purpose Month giving

42 charities, across the island of Ireland, including Limerick-based Headway and The Desmond Complex to receive thousands of non-perishable items, helping to tackle food poverty this winter.
Sysco Ireland colleagues in Limerick have come together to pack and distribute food boxes, filled with food staples and treats, to seven charities across the region.
Sysco Purpose Month, which was first rolled-out in 2023, will see colleagues across the company’s major sites in Limerick, Dublin, Cork and Belfast, volunteer to pack and deliver more than 3,500 food boxes to 42 employee-nominated charities as part of the company’s global Purpose Month initiative.
As well as national charities such as The Simon Community and SVP, Limerick based Headway and The Desmond Complex will benefit from the initiative which is aimed at helping to alleviate food poverty as the colder weather kicks in.
Speaking on the annual initiative Martina O’Donnell, HR Director, Sysco Ireland, said; “Purpose Month remains incredibly close to the hearts of everyone at Sysco Ireland and now in its third year, it reflects the collective commitment of our colleagues across the country to live our purpose of Connecting the World to Share Food and Care for One Another.
“At a time when charities are under more pressure than ever, we are proud to play our part in supporting communities, and in particular to help those which have been nominated by our colleagues.”
Rella Galvin, Rehabilitation Services Manager at Headway said, “An acquired brain injury can have a significant impact on those affected, leaving individuals with a range of physical, cognitive, and emotional consequences. Our clients are often unable to return to work following their injury which can lead to financial hardship for them and their families.
“The food boxes are a welcome support for those low-income individuals and families who are struggling; helping to reduce the financial pressure and stress that is often more acutely experienced at this time of year.”
Aileen Harnett at the Desmond Complex said, “The Desmond Complex run a daycentre for the elderly two days every week and a Meals on Wheels service five days per week. Our clients are vulnerable people who may not have family or neighbours to look after them so our outreach to the community is very important to these people. The food boxes delivered every Christmas from Sysco are a lovely bonus to our clients and they really appreciate the important staples that are included in them. Many thanks to the staff and management of Sysco.”
The boxes will be delivered to the nominated charities throughout November with families receiving the boxes throughout the month of December.
