Sysco Limerick made an investment of €2.6m transforming the Limerick site into a modern facility
Local Minister Patrick O’Donovan TD and Tom Ruddle, Councillor for Newcastle West, officially opened Sysco Limerick following a major refurbishment of the foodservice specialist’s mid-west hub.
The culmination of two years’ work, at an investment of €2.6m, the upgrade has seen the Limerick site transformed into a modern facility, specifically designed to meet growing industry demands across the region.
Renovation work to enhance the site includes the creation of contemporary office spaces, a state-of-the-art development kitchen, extended warehouse space, as well as updated canteen and gym facilities designed and built to meet the company’s sustainability ambitions.
Speaking at the opening the Minister congratulated Sysco on completion of the work saying, “It’s an honour to be here to officially open these new facilities. Sysco is an important and valued employer in this region, it sustains families and communities far beyond these walls in so many different ways. The government recognises and supports the continued development and ambition of the Midwest, to be a destination for enterprise and entrepreneurship and to attract more high skilled, well paid jobs.”
Following a successful recruitment drive in late 2023, more than 400 people are currently employed at the site in a range of roles including contact centre, warehousing, IT and procurement.
Mark Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Sysco, commented that the Limerick site is an important hub for the business, saying the refurbishment was a significant milestone for the company as it continues to invest in its people and places across the island of Ireland:
“As Ireland’s only foodservice specialist of scale, we seek to continually innovate, driving the industry forward by going above and beyond to deliver an exceptional, high-quality service to our customers across the island. Great care has been taken to ensure that this facility in the heart of the mid-west region, is not only in keeping with its natural surroundings but is well suited to meet the needs of employees, customers and suppliers alike while also supporting the company’s wider sustainability ambitions. It is a point of pride to see the team’s hard work and vision come together to provide this facility that is home to our growing Sysco Limerick family.
“We are here to be an active player in the local community, to boost the local economy and achieve our wider business growth goals across the island of Ireland.” He continued.
With a product range in excess of 10,000 items, Sysco is the only foodservice specialist of scale in Ireland. With an impressive portfolio of wines and spirits in its Classic Drinks division and a comprehensive offering of fresh and prepared produce solutions under the Ready Chef brand, the company is leading the way in serving hospitality and catering outlets across Ireland.
