Excitement is building in Limerick as the Senior County Footballers gear up for their Tailteann Cup final when they travel to Croke Park on Saturday, July 12, to take on Kildare.

The fixture details have been finalised for the cup final following the team’s incredible comeback win over Wicklow in the Semi-final, Jimmy Lee’s men will face Kildare on Saturday, July 12 with a 2:30 pm throw in, and the game will be televised on RTÉ and will also be shown on BBC.

Football fans travelling to the game will be in for a double-header treat as the Tailteann Cup final will be followed by the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship featuring Limerick’s Munster neighbours, Kerry, as they take on Tyrone with a 5pm throw-in. Similar to the recent Senior Hurling Munster Final, the Tailtean Cup final will include, if needed after normal time, extra-time and penalties to guarantee a winner on the day.

Limerick come into the final following a dramatic comeback win over Wicklow in the semi-final. The Senior Footballers dug deep as they trailed by seven points with under 20 minutes left on the clock, but an incredible 16-minute spell saw the Limerick men tally up 1-9, with Rob Childs kickstarting the comeback with a goal in the 52nd minute.

Goalkeeper Josh Ryan also had a standout performance on the day, which saw him score a crucial 60-metre free and also denied the Wicklow team with a penalty save. Giving Limerick a 2-18 to 1-17 win on the day and a place in the Tailteann Cup final on July 12.

Following the game, Limerick Manager Jimmy Lee highlighted the team’s journey over the past seasons, noting some key injuries and recoveries in that time. He said, “ They climb mountains. They’re doing it week in, week out. And today it justifies that, I’m just absolutely thrilled for them.”
