TAIT HOUSE PROVIDE ENERGY EFFICIENCY UPGRADE PROGRAMME

Tait House Community Enterprise has recently provided Energy Efficiency upgrades to over 200 Homes in Limerick city & County under the SEAI Area Based Programme.

Tait House Community Enterprise (formerly known as Southill House) managed by CEO Tracey Lynch, is a community development co-operative whose mission is to generate enterprise, employment and training opportunities through the provision of services for the people of Limerick.

Based at Collins Avenue, Roxboro Road, Over the last 10 months the organisation has been going through a rebranding process with a change of name to embrace the history of the building and the new organisational structures that have been put in place to serve and ensure the growth of community through continued development in terms of enterprise, training and education.

One of the key areas of Social dividend that Tait House Community Enterprise delivers is the SEAI Area Based Programme. SEAI established a programme, which supports targeted geographic area based projects that will deliver improvements in energy efficiency to qualifying households.

The objective of the programme is to improve thermal energy efficiency of low income Homes and deliver a cost effective approach to addressing energy poverty in mixed ownership homes.

Tait House is participating in the SEAI Area Based Project in partnership with Limerick City & County Councils and the Irish Petroleum Association. Up to 220 homes in Limerick City & county have been selected for a suite of upgrades as required that included some deep retrofitting of homes with new windows and doors, Boiler and Heating Control upgrades, wall and attic insulation and supply of CFL Bulbs.

Catherine Kelly from Ballinacurra Weston recently received an upgrade of full heating systems, Insulation works and Building Energy rating and tells me, “I cannot begin to put into words how this has changed the life of my family. For once we are looking forward to the winter and will not be living in damp conditions which were soul destroying and a health risk to our family.”

Tait House offers invaluable environmental community resources such as free insulation assessments for the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme, free home insulation upgrades to through the Better Energy Scheme and Free Wireless and Hard wired Panic Alarms to qualifying clients.

”Our objective’s as a Community Based Organisation is to improve the living conditions of low income households, to improve the housing stock in our communities so as to increase the health and wellbeing of low income householders which can be significantly impacted by cold temperatures and the unaffordability to pay for fuel. We also seek to reduce the environmental impact for our communities of having high concentrations of poor quality housing and we are providing training and development opportunities for the long term unemployed which will improve the economic and social infrastructure of our communities. These type of programmes and partnerships assist in developing enterprise skills within local communities.
