On Saturday 4th November 2017 Tall Tales from Limerick City by Hugh Mc Mahon was launched in Shannon Boatclub on Sarsfield Bridge at 8 pm. Tall Tales from Limerick City is a collection of 122 illustrated stories of folklore, history and humour from Limerick.

There are five chapters in the book describing the history, places, religion, people and sport. Some of the stories are based on real historical events, others are anecdotal and some stories are rather fanciful hearsay. Every page features a different illustrated story and the collection cover a range of topics; from mythological prehistory to modern events. Tall Tales from Limerick City is an accessible and entertaining collection which will appeal to anybody interested in the local history and folklore of Limerick.

Hugh Mc Mahon is an artist, art teacher and art therapist born in Limerick in 1976. He was raised in Coonagh, north side of Limerick City and he studied painting in Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) and has produced two other comic books of local folklore and humour ‘Limerick Folktales’ (2014) and ‘Limerick Slang’ (2016). Hugh Graduated with an MA in Art PsychoTherapy from Cork CIT in 2010. In 2016, Hugh released “Limerick Slang” which consists of over 300 Illustrated Slang Terms from Limerick City.

‘Tall Tales from Limerick City’ retails at €10 and is available from O Mahony’s Bookshop, Crescent Bookshop, Copy That (Henry Street) and Wild Ireland (Nicholas Street).

He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online.
