Open House Limerick are asking architects to design a temporary pavilion to be constructed in Ted Russell Park on the Condell Road. The pavilion is to be enjoyed by the public throughout the summer of 2022.
The competition is part of the OHL Heritage Week Festival 2021 and was initiated by the Irish Architecture Foundation and Limerick City and County Council.
Architects interested in designing the pavilion should submit a CV, a 150-word statement detailing their interest in this opportunity, as well as three examples of their work.
Applications for the pavilion will be accepted until Monday, September 13, when six architects will be selected to submit design proposals for their pavilion. The winning design will be revealed on October 30.
The pavilion will be constructed with the assistance of Open House Limerick and will have a budget of €8000. The sustainability of the winning pavilion will be considered, with materials with a past or future use preferred.
“We believe this to be an exciting way to bring quality design to the people of Limerick,” pavilion project lead Ciara McInerney told I Love Limerick.
“The pavilion will be a truly public space, open to all to use and engage with.”
Open House Limerick is run by a voluntary, not-for-profit committee that organises building tours, guided walks and other architecture-oriented events. It is part of the wider Open House Worldwide, which includes over forty Open House festivals globally. The organisation aims to showcase outstanding architecture for all to experience, completely free of charge.
