Ormston House announces they will present a performance by TENGGER, a travelling musical family based in Seoul.

TENGGER is comprised of a South Korean/Japanese couple, ITTA and MARQIDO and their twelve-year-old son RAAI. The group creates their unique, psychedelic New-Age drone music through the use of vocals, Indian harmonium, synths and electronics, and toy instruments.

The group went by the moniker 10 until the birth of RAAI in 2012. ‘TENGGER’ is taken from the Mongolian term for ‘unlimited expanse of sky’ and the Hungarian term for ‘huge sea’. This new name marked the expansion of the family and a different sonic approach.

ITTA and MARQIDO released their first album under this new name in 2013. Electric Earth Creation was the genesis of what would become TENGGER’s signature sound: hypnotic synths, spectral vocals, rhythmic propulsion, and nature motifs.

TENGGER developed this voice over six further albums to date, most recently a self-titled release in 2023. The album finds TENGGER exploring their origins and accepting the mood of the world, using the motion of wind and waves as sonic inspiration.

The family’s yearly pilgrimages inform every aspect of their art. Travel, as spiritual experience in real environments, and the sound between the space and the audience have been central themes of their works. Their interest in cosmology is reflected in their outlook and lyrical approach.

Albums by TENGGER have been named as end-of-year highlights by PopMatters and Treble. The Fader has described their work as “music designed to induce enlightenment.”

This concert is suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Join us for the concert on Saturday, 21 June at 3pm. Tickets are €10 and available online.
