Young people are making themselves heard with The Gaggle Podcast, a dynamic new audio series created by young people, for young people through Foróige West Limerick. This exciting initiative is a powerful example of how digital platforms can empower youth to explore identity, build empathy, and speak out on issues that matter to them.

Operating from the Foróige West Limerick Creative Learning and Digital Hub, The Gaggle reflects the creativity, curiosity, and passion of its young creators.

With the aim of leaving a lasting legacy, the original group of 22 participants has recorded seven episodes to date, covering topics such as diagnosis and acceptance; creativity and well-being; the influence of social media; parenting; original music and more.

“Young people are so stressed keeping up their commitments, so the hub is a space to chill out, try new things in a fun and relaxed way,” says Elaine Williams, Youth Officer for Foróige.

The Creative Learning and Digital Hub was launched three years ago under the Tusla Investing in Children Award, which recognises services that engage meaningfully with youth. The hub serves as a safe space for personal exploration, creative expression, and group collaboration—where projects run at the pace set by the young people themselves.

As the original group completes their time at the hub, they pass the mic to the next generation of podcasters, ensuring that The Gaggle remains a living, breathing platform for youth voices.

The Gaggle Podcast is part of a wider digital youth work initiative led by Foróige Go—a long-standing programme committed to equipping young people with digital skills for what’s now and next.

Under the GoSonic brand, Foróige’s SoundSurfers programme—developed in partnership with the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre at the University of Galway—uses podcasting, audio production, and music creation as tools for empathy education. Through storytelling, sound engineering, and creative self-discovery, young people build empathy, critical thinking, and digital citizenship.

“All of Foróige’s digital youth work programmes are designed to facilitate young people to grow their empathy, critical thinking, and digital citizenship,” says Elaine Williams. “These skills are essential not just to their engagement with technology, but to life and relationships in general.”

The Gaggle Podcast is an interagency collaboration between Foróige, Tusla, County Limerick Music Generation, and Limerick and Clare Local Creative Partnership (ETB). Together, these organisations are championing creative initiatives to promote youth mental health and foster digital creativity across West Limerick.

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
