The Lone Wolf bar launch was held on Thurs July 23, at its location at 4 Ellen Street. Greg Meaney, owner of the Lone Wolf bar, said at the launch: ‘I saw a gap in the market for the over 20’s crowd, for a late-night bar, offering something different. It’s all about having a comfortable and edgy surrounding. We want it to be really welcoming.’

The bar has a number of unique features. The newly-installed lighting system in the front bar catches the eye of all passing and is the first of its kind in Ireland, controlled by Madrix Software.

Moving away from the usual style of bright and flashy neon, Greg chose to create a more understated sign for his bar, with the help of sign-writer Tom Collins, of  business; Tom Collins Signs. The subtle and artistic sign hangs over the door, with the name and figures painted in white paint on reclaimed wood. Greg said, about working with Tom: ‘He fit in with me and the Lone Wolf feel, given the coolness of the space and how it’s unique in Limerick.’

Also fitting in with the unique style of the Lone Wolf are the taps that have been moved to the back: ‘We have moved the taps to the back bar, which is something I saw for the first time in Manhattan and isn’t that common in Ireland. It’s to help the bar staff produce quality cocktails that our customers will enjoy.’

The three-floor building is perfect for bookings, with a second spacious floor perfect for birthday parties, a third floor function-room equipped with its own smoking area and set of toilets and two booths in the front bar, ideal for groups of hen parties.

About booking with the Lone Wolf, Greg said: ‘We welcome hen parties. During the daytime, a hen party could come in and do some cocktail classes and then have their own booth reserved, with a glass of complimentary prosecco.’

Elaine Hennessy, from Little Blue Studios, worked with Greg to design the striking, bright neon-blue sign of a wolf’s head, displayed on a large wall in the front bar. Elaine said about working with Greg: ‘The whole process was really exciting. The bar now has all of these textures within it but it’s still got that lovely, comfortable feel, and it’s kind of contrasting in a good way. It’s very eclectic.

‘Greg came up with the idea and the name for the bar, and it was easy for me then to go from there to help create the design.’

No space was left to waste, with a large wall on the second floor being covered with colourful comic book covers that pop against the dark background, and was designed by illustrator Matthew Griffin.

The launch offered a welcoming feel, with a friendly bar staff, relaxed surroundings and appetising food provided by Hell’s BBQ, a mobile Limerick catering service.
