Congrats to the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau who are celebrating 15 years in business this year. The Shannon Bureau promotes the Shannon Region as a location for business and sports tourism and offers an entirely free service to event organisers and local ambassadors to help increase the Clare and Limerick regions share of the lucrative international business and sports tourism market. Hundreds of ambassadors have been actively working with the Bureau in recent years to help attract thousands of people to the region through a range of business and sports events. The Shannon Region gets a €7.5 million slice of the Business & Events Tourism cake annually! 

In the last 15 years the Shannon Bureau has worked on such events as the European Food Truck Festival, the Pan –Am Reunion, Summit of The Book, the World BBQ Championships and the Japanese Karate World Championships.

At this year’s annual business report meeting, The Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau announced that in 2017 it supported business and sports events worth in excess of €7,000,000 to the economy of the region, a substantial slice of the national Business & Events Tourism cake. 

2018 is looking good with an almost €3 million economic impact of new business already confirmed for the year ahead.

The Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau acknowledged the key role of the partnership in place between themselves, Failte Ireland, the local venues in Limerick and Clare and the many local ambassadors who all helped contribute to the great year. The Region supported over 30 events in 2017 of which 100% were international.

“We are delighted with the 2017 achievement and the success of our business and sports tourism strategy over the last 15 years in winning and supporting business in the region.  We are very proud to have weathered many economic storms over the years and delighted to be still here to bid for and win lucrative business tourism for the region with the support of Failte Ireland,” said Karen Brosnahan, General Manager Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau.

Tony Brazil chairman of the bureau’s board was delighted to acknowledge the work of the bureau over the last 15 years at this year’s annual stakeholders meeting, “The Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau moves confidently into 2018 celebrating its 15th year in business after supporting a whopping €100,000 million economic impact in business and sports tourism for the Shannon Region since its inception.”

Paul Mockler, Head of Commercial Development for Fáilte Ireland commented, “Business Tourism is worth €580 million to Ireland’s economy and supports approximately 20,000 jobs. So, we are delighted to acknowledge the contribution the Shannon Bureau has made in 2017 and indeed in the last 15 years in winning this lucrative tourism business for the Shannon region. We look forward to continuing working with them going forward.”

Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau is a public-private partnership supported by Fáilte Ireland with public and private partners in Clare and Limerick.
