A brand new theatre project known as The Theatre Shop has transformed the Park Kiosk into an outstanding performance space for City of Culture. The Theatre Shop is based on shared memories of the unit as well as the park itself.

The Theatre Shop has opened for business yesterday, Thursday December 18th 2014. The Theatre Shop is the brainchild of Installation artist and theatre-maker, Norma Lowney, The Theatre Shop is the second installment of City of Culture’s The Park Kiosk series, coordinated by artist Michael McLoughlin.

The Park Kiosk is an original concept by Maeve McGrath. Project Manager for The Theatre Shop, Jenny Hannon has been gathering stories about the park and kiosk from the local community for the past month. These stories have inspired a number of fictional stories which have been devised by Lowney and her cast Ann Blake and Darren Maher.

The show will be transactional in nature as the audience will ‘order’ a story off the shelf -offering a nod to the Kiosk’s original purpose. Stories of childhood, hot summers and ice cream wafers to love across the kiosk counter- have been gathered from the local community. The community has been outstanding in their generosity and support. The Theatre Shop would like to thank all those who have contributed their memories which form the basis of this amazingly, unique project. The stories that have been gathered will be presented to Limerick Civic Trust.

The Theatre Shop is a free event and all are welcome! Performances will take place on December 18th and 19th from 7pm to 9pm with a matinée performance taking place on Saturday 20th from 3 o’clock until six o’clock.
