Think Pink Cycle in Association with Marie Keating Charity Foundation Announced
By I Love Limerick Correspondent Jordan Mac Cormaic
Limerick first all ladies cycling group, the Ladies @The Hub, have announced the Think Pink Cycle in association with the Marie Keating Charity Foundation, which will take place on Sunday 3rd September 2017.
The Think Pink cycle will start from the Ahane GAA club and registration is now open with a 100% of proceeds from registration fees being donated to the Marie Keating Foundation.
There will be a 30k (via Birdhill) and 75k route (via Nenagh), so the leisure cycle is suitable for all abilities. It’s sure to be a fun day out for all.
The Ladies@The Hub cycling group are affiliated to The Hub Cycling Club, one of Limerick’s newest leisure cycling clubs. The existing cycling group consists of ladies across all spectrums of fitness, age, and ability, providing a friendly, supportive and active environment for women to cycle safely and socialise.
Members of this unique cycling group all agree that the key emphasis is on camaraderie, fun, and lots of coffee stops. They also pride themselves in having nine qualified female Cycle Ireland Road Captains along with a resident experienced cycling coach in which to help its female members further develop and strengthen their cycling ability.
The Marie Keating Foundation is committed to providing all families with the necessary information to prevent cancer or detect it at its earliest stages. Through its community information service, the Foundation’s dedicated nurses have enlightened over 255,000 people of the causes and risk factors of cancer.
The Foundation is continuing to expand its awareness campaigns on each of the most common cancers affecting both men and women in Ireland, at a local level through its community outreach approach as well as through national campaigns.
Through its Comfort Fund, the Marie Keating Foundation provides financial assistance to people who are currently receiving treatment for any kind of cancer and who, as a result, find themselves in financial difficulty. In 2016 alone, over 526 families received assistance from the Comfort Fund. The Foundation also provides support to people who have finished their cancer treatment through its Survive & Thrive programmes, with free seminars and courses running nationwide.
The Think Pink Cycle Committee said: “This event could not go ahead without the generous financial support it has received through sponsorship and in particular, the main sponsor Centra Ireland, who are funding this event.”
The event is also supported by The Hub Bike for Life Store Limerick, Limerick Sports Partnership, Keogh, Ryan, Tierney Chartered Accountants Limerick, and Ishka Irish Spring Water. The Ladies @The Hub Cycling Group and the Marie Keating Foundation would also like to acknowledge Ahane GAA Club Lisnagry, Eir Oig GAA Club, Nenagh, and Coopers Bar Birdhill, Co. Tipperary, who have all kindly provided their premises and support for the Think Pink Cycle.
