Following the huge success of the Team Limerick Clean-up over the past three years which secured widespread national and regional media coverage, TLC4 is set to take place again this year on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, “TLC has been a significant motivation and inspiration to our organization since the first year. It is a simple but brilliant idea that we have capitalized on and created a link with our tidy towns and going for gold programmes.”

In conjunction with this event, Tait House Community Enterprise in Southill will hold their first ever trash Fashion event on Friday at Tait House Community Enterprise, Collins Avenue, Roxboro Road, Limerick. To enter people, need to create a design or dress up using recycled, sustainable, eco-friendly art using everyday materials that are now waste. Contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their work and will be judged by a panel of judges for the local community.

“The idea behind this exciting competition is to encourage those of all ages to learn about the importance of recycling and reusing waste materials. It allows contestants to express their creativity and innovation through the conscious re-use of materials that would otherwise end up in the bin,” spoke Tracey Lynch, CEO of Tait House, who is coordinating the event.

TLC4 Tait House ties in with Team Limerick Clean Up 4, which will see over 300 people from the local community come together to clean up their locality. Anyone can register to be part of the cleanup and can do so by calling Simone or Gerry on (061) 415340.

TLC (Team Limerick Clean-up) began in 2015, and has been going from strength to strength since.

The TLC initiative is sponsored by the JP McManus Benevolent Fund and is spearheaded by Paul O’Connell, Limerick City and County Council coordinates with the support of Mr. Binman. Tait House is excited to announce that they will host JP Mc Manus and Paul O’ Connell this year along with Assistant Commissioner, David Sheahan at TLC4 Tait House.

Those registered will meet on the grounds of Tait House and be welcomed with tea, coffee, and hot cross buns. The judging of the Trash Fashion will then take place in the exquisite Music Room of Tait House, which was built and hand painted in the 1800’s. Contestants will have their outfit judged, with an overall winner being chosen, along with 3 runner-ups. The winning contestant will receive a monster hamper containing a selection of Easter goods, a €30 voucher from the Urban Co-Op, dinner for 4 at Mr. Tait’s Cafe and a Wash & Blow-dry voucher from Shelly’s Hair cabin. Runners-up will receive a selection of Easter Hampers also.

Once the Trash Fashion event has concluded everyone will head out to do their bit as part of TLC4 Tait House, but not before children receive their free Easter egg ticket. Once the clean-up is complete everyone can return to Tait House and kids can trade their ticket in for their egg.

“Two million disposable coffee cups are currently sent to landfill sites in Ireland every day. In order to help tackle this issue, Tait House is also launching the Conscious Cup Campaign in their community café on Friday with the help of JP Mc Manus and Paul O’ Connell. The central focus points of this campaign are to encourage individuals to switch to reusable cup and to persuade coffee shops to; one, accept the reusable cups and two, offer a reward to those customers, be it a monetary discount or extra loyalty points/stamps,” commented Tracey Lynch, of Tait House.

Customers of Mr. Tait’s Cafe will now receive a 10c discount when they present their reusable cup when buying a hot beverage, “We are delighted that the JP Mc Manus Benevolent fund is providing us with TLC reusable cups to distribute on the day as part of the initiative.”
