Limerick’s hurling youth have added to the silverware, returning to the Treaty City for 2026 by claiming the 2026 Tony Forristal U14 title in Waterford.

One of the most anticipated events in underage intercounty hurling, the Tony Forristal event brings the best of youth hurling to Waterford each year in memory of Tony Forristal, first played in 1982.

Three Limerick teams took to the field on the day, with Limerick White and Limerick Green joining the winners on the day, Luimneach.

Managed by Na Piarsaigh’s Emmet Beston, Luimneach secured the title with a 2-10 to 1-6 victory over Waterford in the final.

Following the final result, Limerick GAA shared, “Congratulations to all involved with Limerick Tony Forristal team winners of the Tony Forristal Cup when they defeated Waterford in the Final today by 2-10 to 1-06. Congrats to Rhys O’Riordan Limerick captain and also Man of the Match.”

Luimneach had earlier defeated Limerick White before beating South Tipperary by one point, going on to claim the U14 cup with a seven-point victory over the Waterford side.

Murroe Boher GAA shared congratulations, saying, “Huge congratulations to the Limerick U14 team on winning the Tony Forristal Cup today.

“A special mention to our own Rhys O’Riordan, who captained the side to a brilliant 2-10 to 1-06 victory over Waterford in the final. And to top it all off, Rhys was awarded Man of the Match! What an achievement Rhys; we’re all incredibly proud of you. Well done to Rhys and everyone involved with the Limerick U14s.”

The county’s U15 and U16 teams were also in action in their respective competitions over the weekend.

The silverware adds to a successful year for Limerick GAA, which has seen the Limerick Senior Hurlers bring the Liam MacCarthy Cup back to Limerick following a three-year gap. The Limerick Minor Hurlers also had a year to remember, earning what was Limerick’s first Minor All-Ireland championship in 42 years.

Individually, Pallasgreen hurler Colin Ryan claimed another All-Ireland title for Limerick this year as bringing home the 2026 All-Ireland Poc Fada title.
