This year’s Mid-West Apprenticeship & Traineeship Careers Showcase attracted more than 2,500 people to the International Convention Centre at the Great National South Court Hotel on Wednesday, October 16. The event, now in its second year, attracted students, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents from across the region interested in learning more about the numerous exciting routes open to students through Further Education and Training. The showcase was organised again this year by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and the Mid-West Regional Skills Forum. Students participated in practical demonstrations in augmented reality welding, motor mechanics, hairdressing, beauty, brick and stone laying and toolmaking.
They also accessed information on new apprenticeships in accountancy, logistics and information technology, as well as traineeships in aviation and hospitality.
Commenting on the success of this year’s event, Eimear Brophy, FET Manager with the ETB, said, “Visitors to the showcase accessed information on the many pathways in Further Education and Training, as well as information on up-skilling and availing of skilled job opportunities in the region.
“The huge uptake by schools and guidance counsellors attending the showcase demonstrated the increase in discussion and demand for information on apprenticeships,” Eimear added.
Also commenting, Joe Leddin, Mid-West Regional Skills Forum Manager, said, “Employers are hugely interested in the development of this showcase event, which offers one of the pipelines of employees for the future. Opening students’ minds to the possibilities of real employment through skills development augers well for the future.”
