Trans Pride Limerick 2025 saw supporters gather on Saturday, August 23, on Bedford Row, calling for improved healthcare for Ireland’s Trans community
The importance of protest, visibility, and a call for urgent reforms to healthcare in Ireland were the calls made by Trans Pride Limerick at the 2025 event held in Limerick City Centre, Saturday, August 23.
The gathering saw a large group of supporters come together on Bedford Row in the city centre with flags and signs in support of Limerick’s Trans Community, with a message aimed at national and international support.
Eleanor of Trans Limerick Community spoke with Trans Pride Limerick organisers Beth and Jonah who spoke about how Trans Pride sticks to its roots in protest to promote its message, Beth said, “ I think trans pride is more of a protest, and I think especially a lot of regular prides have a lot of companies and big corporates and they just don’t show importance of pride and the importance of it still being a protest.”

Ahead of the event, Eleanor told I Love Limerick, “TLC is happy to speak at Trans Plus Pride. It is important that everyone understands that, just because Pride Month is over, it does not mean that the fight for trans rights stops.
“The healthcare system for trans people is incredibly broken and keeping up that pressure against it, to have changed and have a fairer and respectful form of healthcare. It’s of vital importance to us, and we are happy to put our voices towards this cause.”
Jonah emphasised the challenges the trans community continues to face, particularly amid rising hostility. Jonah said, “ I feel like it’s a matter that you shouldn’t really go against people for being trans if you don’t know much about it yourself. So I feel like there’s a lot of learning involved in that before you want to go off and cause aggression.”
A central focus of this year’s Trans Pride was healthcare access, Eleanor said, “ We’re out here calling for the government to improve on trans healthcare and to make sure that HRT is free and accessible for everybody who needs us, and switch towards a system of self-determination rather than a system that is based around treating it almost like a mental disability.”
