Monday, August 4 sees Kerry FC visit the Markets Field in as Treaty United senior men’s team host rare Monday afternoon kick-off

Next Monday, August 4th, sees a visit from neighbours Kerry FC to the Markets Field in a rare Monday afternoon kick-off for the Senior Men’s team.

The Bank Holiday Monday set of games in the SSE Airtricity First Division are all slated for a 5PM kick off so patrons will need to get down earlier to the Garryowen venue.

In recognition of this earlier start and the Bank Holiday encounter, Treaty City Brewery will be operating a pop-up bar from 4PM in the Markets Field, serving fantastic locally-brewed beers such as Renegade Lager and Harris Pale Ale.

Monday’s fixture will be the second in less than 72 hours for both sides as Treaty face Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night while Kerry host Athlone Town in Mounthawk at the same time. Regardless of Friday night’s results, Treaty United will go into the Bank Holiday fixture occupying one of the playoff spots in the league while Kerry FC will remain in second-from-bottom position.

Last weekend saw a veritable game of two halves for Treaty United against Athlone Town in Lissywollen. Despite starting the game brightly, Treaty fell behind to a goal from on-loan midfielder, Jason Oyenuga and it went from bad to worse as Gideon Tetteh added a second very shortly afterwards. Treaty survived a scare or two as Athlone dominated although Mark Byrne looked to have halved the deficit only to have his goal ruled out in an extremely tight offside call.

Tommy Barrett changed shape and personnel at half time, making 3 changes by bringing on Lee J Lynch, Patrick Ferry and Brian Cunningham. And all three contributed to Treaty’s comeback with Lee J pulling the strings from midfield and Brian and Patrick grabbing their first goals for the club. In the end, Treaty will be disappointed that they didn’t go on to grab all 3 points as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Tommy’s side will be eager to avenge a 1-0 defeat to the Kerryman in Mounthawk when the sides last met – a game which Treaty dominated but somehow failed to hit the net from a host of chances. The last game between the sides in the Markets Field saw Treaty run out comfortable 3-0 winners with goals from David Tarmey, Niko Kozlowski and Trypimir Vrljicak.

Encounters between the two youngest clubs in the League of Ireland have always been eventful affairs and the Bank Holiday fixture is likely to continue in the same vein. Add in the presence of some quality local Treaty City Brewery lagers and ales, and it means that the Markets Field is the place to be on Monday, 4th August. Remember the earlier kick off time of 5PM.
