Treaty United new jersey with Mid West Simon Logo supports homelessness

Treaty United U17 team have recently unveiled their new home jersey supporting homelessness and are using the logo of charity Mid West Simon Community on the jersey.

Mid West Simon Community was established in October 2006, covering the counties of Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary, with their aim being to support people through their journey out of homelessness by providing appropriate accommodation and care services, tailored to their individual needs.

Treaty United Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Limerick. The club was founded in 2020 in the place of Limerick F.C., following their financial collapse. The Limerick club is ready to step up and make a mark in League of Ireland football as their waiting game continues.

This support from Treaty United for the Mid West Simon Community helps raise the issue of homelessness and food poverty in Limerick, while also additionally helping raise funds for this worthwhile cause of homelessness.

This comes after recent news where Mid West Simon Community launched their funding call for Ireland’s first social grocery store which will offer food at reduced prices to a rising number of people experiencing food poverty.

Mid West Simon has launched the funding call after the initiative was recommended in a study conducted by the Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick. The study found that, apart from providing affordable healthy food, a social grocery could also improve people’s mental health outcomes by removing the stigma and shame associated with people being forced to queue on the streets at food banks or soup kitchens. This study will set the initiative in motion towards opening the doors for the first Social Grocery in Ireland.

Ms Jackie Bonfield, CEO of Mid West Simon Community said, “I am really excited to launch the Initiative for Ireland’s first Social Grocery. Our Social Grocery will assist with improving nutrition and therefore health as well as reducing the stigma associated with obtaining free rationed food and also reducing isolation for shoppers.
