Treaty United FC and Tempo Football Announce Strategic Partnership to Support Grassroots and Player Development Across the Mid-West

Treaty United Pride Weekend
A key focus of the partnership will be the continued development of grassroots football through a coordinated programme of camps, clinics, and school-based initiatives delivered throughout the year

Treaty United FC has announced a new strategic partnership with Tempo Football, aimed at strengthening grassroots football and enhancing player development opportunities across Limerick and the wider Mid-West region.

This collaboration brings together Treaty United’s club structure and player pathway with Tempo Football’s modern, performance-focused approach to coaching and development. The partnership is centred on supporting players, coaches, and clubs across the region, while working collaboratively within the existing football landscape to provide additional opportunities for participation and progression at all levels of the game.

A key focus of the partnership will be the continued development of grassroots football through a coordinated programme of camps, clinics, and school-based initiatives delivered throughout the year. In addition, regional development centres will be established to provide structured training environments for players across the Mid-West, creating greater accessibility and consistency in player development.

These development centres will align with a newly defined pre-academy structure, providing identified players a clear, supported pathway into Treaty United’s academy system. This approach ensures that talented players are developed within a consistent framework, while maintaining strong links with local clubs and communities.

As part of this integrated model, the partnership will also support education-linked initiatives, including a Transition Year (TY) programme delivered in collaboration with Tempo Football. This programme will provide students with a structured blend of education and football development, complementing the wider player pathway, which also includes ETB-linked opportunities. Together, these initiatives aim to ensure multiple entry points and inclusive pathways for young players across the region.

Together, the partnership will support player development across all age groups; establish regional development centres to increase access and opportunity; deliver a structured pre-academy pathway aligned to Treaty United’s academy; share coaching knowledge and best practices; and enhance community engagement through camps, clinics, and school-based initiatives.

It also aims to provide structured education and football pathways through TY and ETB-linked programmes; create clearer progression routes into Treaty United’s academy and senior teams; and work collaboratively with clubs and stakeholders to support the continued growth of grassroots football.

Ian McMahon, Managing Director of Treaty United FC, commented, “This partnership is an important step in continuing to strengthen football across our region. It’s about working together to support players, coaches, and clubs at the grassroots level, while also ensuring clear and inclusive pathways for those who want to progress. The addition of development centres and a defined pre-academy structure is a key part of that.”

Tommy Heffernan, CEO of Tempo Football, added, “We’re delighted to be working with Treaty United on this initiative. Our focus at Tempo is on creating positive, high-quality environments where players can learn, improve and enjoy their football. The introduction of regional development centres and a pre-academy pathway will provide players with greater access to structured development opportunities across the Mid-West.”

This partnership reflects Treaty United FC’s ongoing commitment to supporting football development in the Mid-West, with a strong emphasis on community engagement, collaboration, and providing inclusive opportunities for players at all stages of their journey.
