Cappamore native, Trevor Lynch, is flying the colours for Ireland at the 2026 British Transplant Games

Cappamore athlete, Trevor Lynch, is part of the Irish team travelling to Sheffield, United Kingdom, to represent Transplant Sport Ireland at the British Transplant Games.

The Limerick man will represent Ireland in the 800m & 1500m at this year’s games running from Thursday, August 6 to Sunday, August 9.

Lynch joins 19 other transplant recipients who will represent Ireland at this year’s British Transplant Games, showcasing the life-changing impact of organ donation.

Lynch, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2012, underwent two bone marrow transplants in 2014 and 2016, he said, “By this point, my health had really deteriorated and it was a struggle to perform daily chores or even walk to the shops.”

The second transplant changed everything, with Lynch saying he started his road to fitness again, he said, “Within a year, I was back running again. Ten years have now passed and I am enjoying every minute of my second chance.”

Trevor has proudly represented Ireland at transplant sporting events for many years and credits sport with helping both his physical and mental wellbeing.

“”Competing in the transplant games gives me motivation to remain fit all year round. In turn, being fit helps my mental and physical wellness. As an added bonus, Transplant Sport Ireland is such a wonderful team to be part of,” he said, sending a message to the public about stem cell donation, saying, “If you do get called, you will save a life.”
