This particular collection is a riot of colour and celebrates the Japanese tradition of Hanami – of welcoming the spring. The cherry blossom season, so beautiful and so temporary, is a reminder of just how fleeting all moments of joy can be. The collection, titled ‘Sakura’ which is the Japanese word for Cherry Blossom, is closely tied with Taylor Thompson’s other passion, music, with many of the bigger pieces named for characters in the opera ‘Madame Butterfly’.

The work captures the beauty and the sense of moment that Cherry Blossom season brings, while the glossy glass ink brings an entirely new dimension to the artist’s previous work, which won the Tom Fox exhibition award for her graduate show at the Limerick School of Art and Design. The best way to appreciate this riot of color is to pay a visit! The exhibition runs in the Quay Arts Gallery, Ballina, County Tipperary which is a stone’s throw from the Lakeside Hotel, until the 20th of November
