Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has been awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award, in recognition of its work to enhance Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) across TUS

Athena Swan, led by Advance HE, is a framework that helps address inequality in higher education and research through self-assessment, planning and ongoing improvement. This recent institutional achievement builds on a previous Athena Swan Bronze Legacy Award received by TUS in 2022.

TUS submitted its application after a 12-month process that included staff consultation, detailed evidence analysis and the creation of a four-year plan to further support equality, diversity and inclusion at TUS.

This was led by the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team Chair, Ms Marian Duggan, Vice President for People, Culture and EDI, who said, “The achievement of this Athena Swan Bronze Award is the culmination of a lot of hard work by many across TUS.

“Our Athena Swan action plan now provides a clear roadmap to continue our work in support of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. We are delighted to receive this recognition and look forward to continuing to work with colleagues across TUS to implement our action plan.”

Dr Carol Wrenn, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at TUS, added, “the achievement of this Bronze Award and endorsement of our Athena Swan Action plan demonstrates a commitment to furthering our work in support of both gender equality and equality more broadly. Our action plan is ambitious and we are committed to monitoring progress on this plan and demonstrating the impact of it.”

Announcing the award win on social media, the Technological University said, “We are delighted to announce we have achieved an #AthenaSwan Bronze Award! Building on the work of our Legacy Bronze Award, the implementation of our new Athena Swan Action plan will further our work on equality, diversity and inclusion at TUS.”
