Tusla Parenting Support Champions in Limerick are part of a national project that brings together practitioners who are already involved with parenting and family support

Tusla – Child and Family Agency, in conjunction with Limerick Parenting Support Champions have launched The 20 Second Hug & More: Quick Reads for Parents. The book is a collection of parenting support articles previously submitted as part of the Positive Parenting Feature in media publications across Munster. Covering topics which include family wellbeing, communicating with your teen about their life and feelings, and tips for parental self-care it will provide parents with high quality advice and support.

The Tusla Parenting Support Champions in Limerick are part of a national project that brings together practitioners who are already involved with parenting and family support. The project has the aim of promoting and supporting parenting and the implementation of the Parenting Support Strategy within Tusla, partner agencies and organisations. Working together as a team, the Parenting Support Champions bring a coordinated response to how parents are supported and enables the sharing of resources.

Speaking at the launch, Area Manager for Tusla Mid-West Aisling O’Neil said: “We are thrilled to officially launch The 20 Second Hug & More: Quick Reads for Parents. The book is a collection of parenting articles which aim to provide parents with high quality advice and support. Each article offers information and tips for parents, not only in how to foster positive and supportive interactions with their children, but also in finding some time for themselves at some point in their day.”

Susan McGlone, Parent Support Programme Manager said: “Uniting our individual pieces of work into a collective booklet is a real example of how we come together as Parenting Support Champions. Our individual skills and experience are joined through the Parenting Support Champions team making the work that we do stronger and more effective.”

Niamh Dalton, Parenting Support Champion and Incredible Years and Parenting Supports Co-ordinator, ABC Start Right Limerick said: “It’s great to get an opportunity to work together to provide a resource like this for parents – parenting is so hard sometimes. Hopefully, they will get ideas for some fun activities to do with their children and maybe some thoughts to consider for making time for themselves too!”

Parenting Limerick is a network of organisations that provide parenting and family support in Limerick. Parenting Limerick is part of the Limerick Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC). Limerick CYPSC is part of a national initiative that brings together senior level representatives of agencies to enhance the coordination of services and improve outcomes for children and families.
