Co Limerick’s Twomeys Bakery Seeks Slice of Success at this Year’s Irish Food Awards
Twomeys Bakery in Dromcollogher have their fingers crossed for another slice of success at this year’s Blas na hÉireann/ Irish food awards thanks to their “chia cob” bread reaching the final shortlist.
The Blas na hÉireann awards are the biggest blind tasting of produce in the country, and the criteria on which the product is judged as well as the judging system itself, which was developed by Blas na hÉireann with the Food Science Dept of UCC, is now recognised as an international industry standard.
During the first round of judging, which took place over the course of four weeks in June and July, over 2,500 entries were judged
This is the 11th year of the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on this island. Last year Twomey’s Bakery celebrated a record breaking number of accolades and received 4 awards in 2 categories. Its Sliced Batch Loaf came top in the packaged white bread category with the Gold accreditation and White Sliced Pan received Bronze. Silver and Bronze went to 5 Grain Batch and Multiseed Loaf respectively in the packaged bread/not white category.
