University of Limerick encouraging applications for UL 2030 Graduate Bursaries programme
The University of Limerick (UL) is offering six graduate students the opportunity to join an established research project as part of the UL 2030 Graduate Bursaries programme. Each selected candidate will receive a stipend of €16,000 and a fee waiver. The graduates will join an academic team committed to contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through impactful, applied and collaborative research.
Students will also receive training from researchers across disciplines in policy impact and research development. Entry requirements for the UL 2030 Graduate Bursaries programme vary for each research project, but the main requirement is for applicants to hold a minimum of a second-class honours’ degree. The successful applicants are expected to join their research team in January 2022.
Associate Professor in Politics and Public Administration and Head of UL Engage, Dr Maura Adshead said, “The UL 2030 Graduate Bursaries programme offers students the chance to work in established research teams, with a ready network of opportunities for further study and research. They each provide a strong mission and focus in a designated research area, as well as shared training in a host of supplementary skills such as writing successful research proposals, planning and managing projects, ensuring research impact by design, communication and engagement and professional development. In short, they offer the best of all worlds for students looking to develop their career in professionally engaged research designed for positive change and societal impact.”
Each research project offered within the bursary scheme addresses an identified societal challenge. For more information or to apply for individual projects follow the links below:

The UL 2030 Graduate Bursaries programme is a UL Engage initiative. It is an inter-disciplinary programme designed to support graduate research career pathways and engaged research. Under the scheme, the student will receive financial support in the form of a stipend and fee-waiver, and training from researchers across disciplines through a series of workshops, which will supplement your individual academic supervision. The student will be supported in making applications for internal (University of Limerick) and external funding to support the development of their research beyond the first, funded year of the project.
About UL Engage:
UL Engage was established in September 2015. The aim of UL Engage is to integrate civic and community engagement into the University’s core missions in research and teaching. Our communities include local and global connections with all kinds of stakeholders in civic, public or professional spheres, with policymakers, product users, third sector organisations, community groups and residents. UL Engage supports university/community collaborations in all shapes and sizes through a variety of new and existing UL programmes and projects. It serves as the hub for civic engagement activities across campus and works with all divisions and faculties to amplify, incubate and co-ordinate the various ways that students, faculty and staff in the University of Limerick can work to make a difference.
