UL Hospitals Group fundraiser €5,000 for four deserving charities

Four very deserving charities in the Midwest have benefited from the proceeds of the most recent Christmas Fair and Raffle run by UL Hospitals Group in December 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Colette Cowan, CEO of UL Hospitals Group, said, “UL Hospitals Group fundraised for six deserving organisations. The Christmas Fair is something we hold at UHL every year, and as well as bringing some seasonal spirit into the hospital for our patients and visitors, it allows us to partner with local organisations making a real difference in our community.”

UL Hospitals Group fundraised an incredible €5,000 for four deserving charities. The four charitable beneficiaries of the proceeds are Limerick Suicide Watch, the suicide prevention group which patrols the four bridges in Limerick City; Peter McVerry Trust, which is committed to reducing homelessness and the harm caused by substance misuse and social disadvantage; Clare Haven Services, which provides support and information to women and children who experience domestic abuse; and the Munster Indian Cultural Association (MICA), which promotes the social and cultural welfare of Indian families in the Mid-West.

Representatives from the four charities recently attended the grounds of University Hospital Limerick and, in line with the Covid-19 distancing restrictions in place at the hospital, received their funds in person from the CEO Colette Cowan.

UL Hospitals Group is made up of six hospital sites in the Midwest. The six sites function as a single hospital system. The six hospitals consist of the University Hospital Limerick, University Maternity Hospital Limerick, Nenagh Hospital, Ennis Hospital, Croom Orthopaedic Hospital and St. John’s Hospital (Voluntary).

They provide emergency, surgical and medical services on an inpatient and outpatient basis. UL Hospitals Group serves a population of 473,000 people in Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary.

Their academic partner is the University of Limerick (UL), improving standards of care, fostering education, clinical research and innovation.

Limerick Suicide Watch, commenting on the donation, said, “UL Hospitals, thank you so much for your ongoing support and donation. It was lovely to meet you all, and thank you for what you do. It’s a service we very much depend on – regularly when we meet people in distress.”
