The University of Limerick and Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run committee are coming together for the annual UL Sports Kids Run in association with the Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run.

The UL Sport Kids Run is now established as an integral part of the Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run and is in its sixth successive year. This fun event is sponsored by UL Sport and is organized by the Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run in conjunction with Limerick Sports Partnership and the HSE.

 Over 3,000 children will take part in the UL Sports Kids Run, Irelands largest children’s event this May Bank Holiday weekend. There are t-shirts and medals for every child that takes part.

Over 3,000 children will take part in the UL Sports Kids Run, Irelands largest children’s event this May Bank Holiday weekend.

The event is divided into five sections- the wheelchair event on track begins at 2.15pm, followed by the Junior and Senior Infants class on the 1km route that takes place on 3 pm. The first and second-class race is 1.5km and will commence at 3.45pm. At 4.30 the third and fourth-class category will be 2km, the final race for the UL Sports Kids Run is at 5 pm and is a 2.5pm route.

The cost of registration is €15, and €5 of each registration fee will be returned to the school selected at registration, “Last year we gave back €15,000 to primary schools all over the country,” remarked Caolan Moloney of the Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run committee.

Over the years, cheques have been presented to many local schools such as Monaleen National School, Milford Grange NS, St Nessans Mungret NS and Scoil Ide to name a few.

Past UL Vice President Academic and Registrar, Professor Paul McCutcheon spoke of how the event was a tremendous way to give back to the community, “Running and other mass participation sporting events are becoming increasingly popular across the country and the Great Limerick Run promotes positive lifestyle choices for our young children and the equally important aspects, participation and enjoyment.”

Places are limited so if you intend to register please do so this weekend. Registration closes at midnight Monday, April 30.
