Heaton’s background as an artist shines through in the book’s stunning watercolour illustrations, which bring the Burren’s unique landscape to life for young readers. Grammy award-winning composer Bill Whelan, best known for Riverdance, praises Heaton’s creative vision, he said “Una has beautifully illustrated her story to bring the ancient history of the Burren to life.”

The Craggie Clan, Guardians of the Burren, transports children’s imaginations away from busy cities and towns to a rocky landscape in the West of Ireland, where a group of tiny stone creatures lives. An ancient spell has kept them trapped deep underground for thousands of years, and three brave children set out on an incredible adventure to rescue them. As their adventure unfolds, the children learn that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a great impact, and discover that teamwork is the most powerful magic of all.

“Influenced by the rugged, untamed beauty and the rich tapestry of the myths of Ireland, ‘The Craggie Clan, Guardians of the Burren’ is a tale that has been simmering in my heart for years. It’s a journey of magic, friendship and adventure,” shared Una.
