Speaking of the project, director Liam McCarthy said, “It’s brilliant to get the opportunity to tackle a piece like this in a rehearsed reading setting– It’s a beautiful and very poetic play , full of language and fun. It’ a unique and touching depiction of a village that has, as Thomas writes, ‘fallen head over bells in love.’
“It’s a privilege to be able to work with so many outstanding Limerick artists on this project- and with 68 speaking parts it really does take a village! It’s lovely too to come tougher to support the Gaff and their new space and this promises to be a special night.”
This rehearsed reading is a fundraiser for The GAFF. Since its inception, The GAFF has been working towards finding a home for its activities which will also work as a rehearsal space for theatre and related arts in Limerick.
Speaking to The GAFF’S upcoming plans, GAFF Chairperson notes, “The company is most grateful to Limerick City and County Council who have given a 35-year lease on the former Tait Clothing Factory on Edward St. which is now nearing completion of Phase 1 refurbishment.
“When complete, this building will offer several spaces to artists from the performing arts across a range of disciplines. Building work has been enabled with support from the JP McManus Benevolent Fund, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Limerick Council and from College Players, as key stakeholders in the new venture.”
