The UL Music Society, along with Musical Theatre Society, UCC Music Society, UCC Musical Society, DCU Music Society, Trinity Musical Theatre Society, UCD Music Society, Galway University Musical Society, Mary I Dramatic Arts Society and CIT Musical Society have gathered together to make sweet Christmas music all in the effort to raise money for Limerick’s St Gabriel’s school for disabled children.
This is a virtual experience for everyone to enjoy during this time. Each Society has submitted videos of their members singing or playing instruments, and then arranged them together to produce a lovely version of Last Christmas for all of us to enjoy.
Each society has picked a charity near and dear to them, so the following charities are what they will be raising money for, St Gabriel’s Centre, Tribe, Women’s Aid, Childline, the Irish Cancer Society, Mental Health Ireland, Dublin Rape Crisis, Cork Spina Bifida, and Hydrocephalus Association, the Capuchin Day Centre, and Galway Hospice.
The charity UL Music Society and Musical theatre Society have chosen to donate their support to St Gabriel’s Centre.
St Gabriel’s school for disabled children is in Dooradoyle, Limerick. Their mission is to support each child to reach their full potential and to live their life in a dignified manner. They work in a spirit of partnership with parents, carers, and their extended families to deliver a range of services around the individual needs of the child.
The children have access to all relevant therapies during school hours, including O.T., physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, hydrotherapy, and nursing support.
2020 has been a hard year for everyone, but especially for charities and non-profit businesses. Charities are relying on the kindness of the people to keep their doors open and their essential work running.
Music is something that can bring us all together no matter where we are, what we are doing, or who we are. The Societies of Universities are using music to bring us all together in support of all these worthy charities.
The music and musical societies of Irish Universities would really appreciate your support in this endeavour and all of the charities would really benefit from your support.
Sara O’Donnell, from the UL music society committee, said, “We understand how difficult this year has been for everyone and we would love to do what we can to raise money for worthy causes while spreading a bit of Christmas cheer along the way!”
