University Concert Hall (UCH) announces a two-night celebration of top-class Irish comedy with its Comedy Weekend, taking place Friday 10 and Saturday 11 October.

This exclusive event brings together some of the country’s most acclaimed and exciting comedic voices, many of whom have graced international stages and screens, on one platform, for two unforgettable nights of laughter.

Friday night’s lineup features Tony Cantwell, whose sketches and chart-topping podcasts have earned him a huge following and critical acclaim. His performance on Amazon Prime’s LOL: Ireland was hailed by Graham Norton as “the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.”

Joining him is Kevin McGahern, known as host of Republic of Telly and his appearances in Hardy Bucks, Redemption of a Rogue, and The Traitors Ireland Uncloaked.

As well as being a regular in the top Irish comedy clubs, in particular the Laughter Lounge, he has performed in festivals including the Vodafone Comedy Festival, Electric Picnic, and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Also performing Friday is Karl Spain, a veteran of Irish stand-up whose television credits span The Late Late Show, The Panel, and his own hit series Karl Spain Wants a Woman. Rising star Sinéad Quinlan also features in this first evening, having come onto the scene with her RTÉ series Seriously, Sinéad? and now a regular warm-up act for The Late Late Show.

The evening will be hosted by Limerick’s own Brian Gallagher, a three-time Edinburgh Fringe sellout and resident MC of Dublin’s Laughter Lounge, known for his quick wit and masterful crowd work.

Saturday’s show welcomes Belfast’s Shane Todd, who has supported comedy giants Bill Burr and Kevin Hart, and whose podcast Tea With Me has garnered a massive online following.

He’ll be joined by Martin Angolo, an award-winning comic with international touring credits and a standout performance on LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland on Amazon. Fiona Frawley, a fast-rising talent known for her dry humour and appearances at Vicar Street and Electric Picnic, adds her unique voice to the mix.

Also joining the evening is Tom O’Mahony, known for his appearances on Republic of Telly, Bridget & Eamon, and Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock Show, is also a prolific podcaster with multiple shows including The Tom O’Mahony Show and The Tom and Gerry Show.

The evening will be MCd by Julie Jay, a seasoned performer and podcaster who has supported Ardal O’Hanlon and Tommy Tiernan, and appeared on BBC Radio and RTÉ. With no other venue hosting this lineup and all performers appearing exclusively on the UCH stage, Comedy Weekend is a new must attend event in Ireland’s comedy calendar for 2025.

Tickets for the event are priced €25 | Conc. €23 | Students €15 | for single events or a Weekend pass is available for €45.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
