USA Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk takes in his first-ever hurling match as Limerick put five past Tipperary

USA Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk took in his first live hurling match, accompanied by JP McManus as part of the US captain’s visit to Adare Manor.
Furyk was among a packed-out crowd at the TUS Gaelic Grounds as Limerick took on Tipperary in the final game of the round robin stage of the championship. It was the perfect game to introduce new Limerick GAA fan, Furyk, as the Treaty men fired five goals past Tipperary on their way to a commanding victory.
During half-time, Furyk was presented with a specially commissioned engraved hurley to mark the occasion, and speaking with Sporting Limerick after the game, the golfer said he had been preparing for the visit, watching coverage of this year’s championship on GAA+.
Speaking with Sporting Limerick, Furyk said, “A high scoring game today, right? Five goals, 42 points, so kind of a big deal. It’s really fun to watch. These guys are amazing athletes, and it’s a fun sport.
I’m going to try and keep up with this team, I’m now a Limerick fan.”

Earlier this month, Furyk named Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard as two of his Vice Captains for the 47th Ryder Cup, to be played September 13-19, 2027, at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland.
The 55-year-old Furyk played in nine consecutive Ryder Cups (1997, ‘99, 2002, ‘04, ‘06, ‘08, ‘10, ‘12 and ‘14). His nine appearances as a player rank second all-time in U.S. Ryder Cup team history, while his 34 career matches are tied for third. He has served as a vice captain on four occasions, including during U.S. victories at Hazeltine National Golf Club in 2016 and at Whistling Straits in 2021.
