Villiers School has announced its Annual Garden Fete, scheduled for Sunday, May 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the school’s campus. This community event promises activities for all ages while raising essential funds for school development.

The Villiers School Garden Fete is open to the entire community – not just school families – and presents the perfect opportunity for a Sunday outing while supporting local education. Jill Storey, Head of School at Villiers, says that “the Annual Garden Fête has always been about bringing people together and strengthening the bonds between our school and the wider community. These connections are vital to creating the supportive environment our students need to thrive.”

Villiers School is the only school in Limerick, and one of only four schools nationally, authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which is a highly respected international alternative to the Leaving Certificate. Approximately one fifth of Villiers students now graduate with an international diploma. Community engagement is an essential part of both the Transition Year and IBDP curricula in Villiers, connecting classroom learning to real-world contexts, building essential skills like communication, problem-solving, and empathy, and preparing students to be socially responsible global citizens.

Set in the school’s beautiful gardens, against the 200-year historic backdrop of Tivoli House and Derravoher House, the Garden Fête offers something for everyone with a range of activities including a barbecue, crêpes, cakes and bakes, and children’s games and entertainment. Visitors to the event can also browse the book sale, plant sale, second-hand uniform sale, participate in a raffle with wonderfully generous prizes, and also purchase reusable bottles and hoodies.

This event also sees the return of the Villiers Dog Show, an extremely popular event that welcomes and celebrates our four-legged friends. Prize categories include small, medium and large dogs, as well as dogs led by a child, veteran dogs and more!

A highlight of this year’s event is the inaugural Villiers Bake-Off competition, adding an exciting new dimension to the festivities. Throughout the day, talented Villiers students will also showcase their musical abilities with live outdoor performances.

“Our Annual Garden Fête is not just a fundraiser but a celebration of community, both within the school, and in the wider sense,” said Dearbhla Acheson, a spokesperson for the Villiers PTA Committee. “We’re especially excited that all proceeds from this event will directly support the school’s upcoming hockey pitch redevelopment —a project that will benefit both Villiers students, Limerick Hockey Club members and the wider community for years to come.”
