French Ambassador, Vincent Guérend received a warm welcome in Shannon, where he met with representatives of different businesses in the Limerick and Midwest region on Monday, February 14.

Mr Guérend was appointed as French Ambassador to Ireland on September 23, 2020.

This is the third visit from the Ambassador to the Limerick region and was an excellent opportunity to highlight the ties between the two countries at an economic level.

Mr Guérend was accompanied by Honorary Consul for France in Ireland’s Midwest region, Dr Loïc Guyon, Deputy Head of the French Embassy’s Economic Department, Michèle Nissen-Sageot, Deputy Sectorial Attaché (agriculture, transport, environment and digital) Áine O’Mahony, Senior Trade Advisor, Christine Deniel-Spicer, and Managing Director of Neoen Ireland, Cyril Perrin.

Mr Guérend first met with Shannon Foynes Port Company (SFPC), the statutory authority for the Shannon Estuary, about the SFPC Vision 2024 project, which aims to transform the Shannon Port into a major international shipping and economic hub.

The SFPC and Mr Guérend discussed the deepening cooperation between Shannon Port and France. Honorary Consul, Dr Guyon said on Twitter that the project has “a lot of opportunities for business and cooperation in the short and medium-term.”

Ambassador Guérend and those accompanying him then arrived at DesignPro Automation, a company operating in robotics and assembly line automation that is currently working on the design and manufacturing of a new-generation tidal turbine in France.

The ambassador met with General Manager, Paul Collins, and CEO, Redmond McDonnell, and they spoke on the strong trade links and business opportunities that exist between Irish and French companies.

The embassy then party received a tour of Shannon Airport and a briefing from Shannon Group on the airport, its campus, and its commercial properties activity.

“We were delighted to have the opportunity to welcome his Excellency Ambassador Guérend and the delegation to Shannon,” Shannon Group CEO, Mary Considine said of the visit.

“It gave us an opportunity to showcase the initiatives we have undertaken across our campus and explore areas for future collaboration.  We hope that this first visit by the Ambassador and his team will be the first of many.”
