Volodymyr Topiy presents his exhibition of paintings, ‘From The Life of Trees’, at Limerick Museum until June 30th, running alongside a series of performances
‘From The Life of Trees’ by Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Topiy has officially opened at Limerick Museum and will run up to Tuesday, June 30, bringing paintings and a series of performances to the city centre museum.
The exhibition presents a series of paintings exploring themes of war, memory, corporeality, and the transformation of urban space through the experience of violence, and is curated by Limerick’s Maurice Quillinan.
“From the Life of Trees” is a cycle of portraits that do not depict specific individuals in the conventional sense. These figures lack fixed identities and clearly defined personal features. Instead, they emerge as carriers of collective wartime experience, psychological trauma, and the memory of destruction.

In these works, the human body merges with the material of the ruined city — concrete, fragments of architecture, and debris from destroyed buildings. Architecture enters the flesh, while the flesh absorbs the weight of the city. Human and structure become inseparable.
The figure transforms into a human house — a new form of architecture born through violence. Displaced, wounded, and transformed, these bodies remain dignified, fragile, and sacred at once.
Within this project, the city ceases to function as a background. It becomes a living body — a meta-body carrying the marks of suffering, exhaustion, and endurance. The exhibition space unfolds as a territory of shared memory, where the wounds of people and the wounds of the city become one common reality.
Throughout the exhibition, a series of performances by invited artists will reflect on themes of contemporary existence, corporeality, and life, with performances from Wioletta Ratajczak on June 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM, and Deej Fabyc on June 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM.
The exhibition is free to the public and runs until Tuesday, June 30, at Limerick Museum, Old Franciscan Friary, Henry Street, Limerick City, V94 C7W1.
