Love your city? Want to help us become European Capital of Culture 2020? We need you!

With the competition heating up, it’s time for the whole city to come together to celebrate Limerick’s achievements and ambitions in its quest to be chosen as European Capital of Culture 2020. The decision will be made on July 15 after 18 months of work by the bid team.

The European Capital of Culture jury will visit the city on Tuesday, July 12 as they prepare to make their final decision and Limerick’s citizens are being asked to volunteer as we collectively put our best foot forward to showcase everything that our city has to offer.

A number of events and festivities have been organised for July 12 to shine a spotlight on Limerick that day and full details will be announced soon. Volunteers will be a vital part of that day, helping to ensure that the judges have a welcoming, fun and memorable experience of Limerick.

Limerick 2020 Deputy Director Sheila Deegan is making the call out for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about Limerick and who will enjoy working together to make Tuesday, July 12 an unforgettable experience for the visiting jury.

She added: “We want the people of Limerick to play their part in the city’s 2020 bid. We want you to share in the visit of the jury and show them why Limerick deserves the title. We’ve hada huge interest already and we want to see more people sign up to get involved in this incredible experience. It’s going to be lots of fun and a celebration of the city’s culture.”

Since November 2014 Limerick’s communities, businesses, leaders, neighbours and friends have been working hard with Limerick’s 2020 bid team as the city strides for the title which is now in the closing stages.

A new video released by the Limerick2020 bid team called ‘Together’ celebrates the faces, places, and passions that have made Limerick’s bid unique. It inspires Limerick’s people to embrace culture while showing all that the city has to offer from art, to food, to music.

The video which has already had more than 36,000 views (24,000 in its first 48 hours) was made by local production company Piquant Media. The team travelled around the city, capturing the sights, sounds and people that show #WeAreCulture.
