Walk in her Shoes for Midwest Rape Crisis 2016

Rape Crisis Midwest staff, volunteers and supporters gathered at the Parkway Shopping Centre for the launch of Walk in Her Shoes 2016, an annual family-friendly event which, this year, will take place on May 21st. Walk in Her Shoes revolves around a light-hearted challenge to men to literally take a walk in high heels so as to stand in solidarity with women against sexual violence.
The launch was an enjoyable afternoon for all with the, Roger Beck, Manager of the Parkway, kicking things off with a few words to show his support for Walk in Her Shoes. Jane Foley, Project Manager with Rape Crisis Midwest then spoke about the upcoming event itself and its importance, alongside other fundraising events, in combating the €120,000 shortfall faced by Rape Crisis Midwest each year and in keeping the three centres – Limerick, Ennis and Nenagh – open. Special guests at the launch included Diarmuid Crowley from Wild Orchard who are kindly sponsoring drinks on the day and members of the Corbett Suicide Prevention Patrol who bravely donned their high heels to show their support – or perhaps they were cleverly getting in a bit of extra practice in advance for the big day in May! The businesses in Parkway have been extremely generous and eager to get on board, with shops like Shoe Rack donating high heels for the day and Limerick City College donating a 7” tablet as a raffle prize. And not only that, but many brave male staff members from various Parkway businesses have pledged to take the ultimate challenge and walk in high heels for Rape Crisis Midwest in just over two weeks’ time.
This year’s Walk in her Shoes 2016 event will take place at the Parkway Shopping Centre in Limerick, at Nenagh Arts Centre in Tipperary and at Glór Ennis in Clare on May 21st at 12pm. With plenty of music and entertainment, not to mention the ever-popular raffle, it is sure to be a fun day out for all the family and an enjoyable way to raise much-needed funds for all three centres across the Midwest.
So please come along on the 21st and show your support for Rape Crisis Midwest!
