Ten New Youth Leaders for West Limerick Youth Service

Ten young people from West Limerick completed a Junior Leadership training programme with Limerick Youth Service (LYS) at the Burren Outdoor Activity Centre, Co. Clare recently. The teens, who are members of LYS’ Rathkeale Youth Space and Newcastlewest Youth Club, enjoyed two days of workshops & activities in the Banner County.

Delivered by LYS, the Junior Leadership Training Programme equips young people with the skills and confidence to assume leadership roles in their youth clubs and community. ‘The training covers a variety of topics such as teamwork, communication skills, body language and organising events,’ explained Eithne Stembridge, LYS. ‘The skills the young people have learned will stand to them as they progress to leadership roles with their respective youth club/group’ said Eithne, Club Support Worker.

Away from the workshops, the young people took part in activities such as abseiling and kayaking while enjoying the fresh ocean air on the Wild Atlantic Way. LYS wishes to congratulate the young people on their success and wish them the very best in the future. A member of Youth Work Ireland, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.

LYS provides a lot of courses and information for youths on their website, so as to help build self-confidence, be educational, enhance social interaction, promote participation and, most importantly, create a safe environment designed to let young people have fun. LYS provides youth cafes throughout Limerick, so as to ensure there are safe spaces for youths to relax, such as Lava Javas, Steps Youth Café, and Laff Caff Youth Café.
