Limerick Senior Hurling Championship three-year sponsorship deal announced ahead of opening round

Whitebox has been unveiled as the new sponsor for the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, announcing a three-year partnership deal ahead of the opening round of games this week

Ahead of this week’s opening round of the Limerick Senior hurling Championship, wihch kicks off with Kilmallock and Patrickswell this Thursday, July 31, Limerick GAA has announced a new sponsorship deal with Whitebox for the next three years.

Whitebox, which is Limerick’s and one of Munster’s largest property developers, has been unveiled as the new sponsor of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship.

The agreement will see Whitebox, which is headquartered at the Riverpoint building in Limerick city centre but with offices also in Waterford, become the official sponsor of one of the country’s blue riband club championships for a three-year period.

The partnership was announced at Whitebox’s office and attended by its executive, led by Managing Director Martin White, and members of the Limerick GAA County Board, including Chairman Seamus McNamara, Secretary Mike O’Riordan, as well as five-time All-Ireland winning manager John Kiely.

At the announcement, Limerick GAA Chairman Seamus McNamara said that the partnership was a “great fit” as Whitebox is a company with plans “that will help Limerick grow”.

He said, “Whitebox has huge plans for Limerick, plans that will help grow Limerick, including in areas that we are looking to grow our games. On top of that, Whitebox’s DNA is in Limerick, they are huge fans of the Limerick GAA, so we see this as a great fit.”

Commenting at the launch, Whitebox MD Martin White said that the company is delighted to support Limerick GAA by sponsoring the senior hurling championship.

“As a lifelong Limerick GAA fan, I’m proud that we have been able to take up this opportunity to sponsor the Limerick senior hurling championship.  This is one of the greatest club championships in either hurling or football but what particularly pleases us a company is that we know that this investment is effectively going to help with the promotion of the game right across Limerick, including in areas that are not strongholds of the game,” he said.

“We are in the business of building communities, including in more marginalised areas with our developments, and Limerick GAA has big plans for promoting the game in such areas as well. So, we see this as something more than just supporting hurling. It’s about supporting communities.”

John Kiely said, “It was great today to get a full insight from the Whitebox team in relation to their plans for developments across Limerick and further afield. They are going to be a game-changer for Limerick in relation to accommodation, in particular, and delivery of healthcare through their plans for Ballygrennan on Limerick’s north side.  

“These developments will deliver huge social and economic change across Limerick, aside, altogether from the fact that they will be helping alleviate two of the city and county’s biggest needs, housing and healthcare.  So, it’s great to have a home-grown company impacting so positively on Limerick coming on board to sponsor our senior hurling championship. It’s a special championship and I’ve no doubt they’ll get plenty of excitement from it as well.”
