Wired FM Presents contemporary Cork folk music to kick off its Autumn 2024 series
Three electrifying gigs are set to light up Limerick this Autumn with the return of Wired FM Presents, kicking off with Cork’s critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, Cormac O Caoimh
Wired FM, Limerick’s vibrant college radio station, is back this Autumn with a trio of gigs guaranteed to captivate fans of contemporary music as part of Wired FM Presents
Kicking off on Saturday, September 14 at the Record Room, this series promises an eclectic mix of talent, style, and sound, bringing some of the finest acts from Cork and elsewhere to the heart of Limerick.
The season opens with Cormac O Caoimh, a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter from Cork, returning to Limerick for the first time in a decade. Known for his intricate guitar work and emotive lyrics, O Caoimh has been hailed as a “masterful lyricist” by Hot Press and praised for his “exquisite guitar playing” (Irish Times). His return is eagerly anticipated by fans and promises to be a night of pure folk magic.
Joining O Caoimh is Rua Ri, another talent from Cork’s folk scene. Rua Ri’s performances are known for their haunting melodies and poetic storytelling. His work has been described as “achingly beautiful and refreshingly honest,” giving him a strong following across Ireland.
Rounding off the night is Meadhbh Hayes, Limerick’s adopted Cork native, adding her enchanting voice to the mix. Hayes’ performances are intimate and soulful, a perfect fit for the cozy, underground atmosphere of the Record Room.
The night will begin at 9 PM, with free entry for all attendees. Wired FM will also record the gig for later broadcast, so listeners can relive the magic.
September 19 marks the second gig of the season, featuring Ten Past Seven, a band revered for pushing musical boundaries with their hard-hitting, math-rock sound. Described by The Thin Air as “one of Ireland’s most inventive and visceral live acts,” their performance in Limerick is part of a three-day tour with Bye Bye Tsunami, a band known for their genre-blurring fusion of glitchy electronics and experimental noise. Expect the unexpected as dehumanized vocals, frenetic beats, and experimental visuals collide for an unforgettable live show.
Louder Than Books, a local band making their live debut, will also take to the stage, adding another layer of excitement to an already stellar lineup. Entry for this sonic surgefest is €10, with a live broadcast bringing the energy to Wired FM’s audience.
The final gig in the series will feature Parliament Square who make a long-awaited return to Limerick on the 11th of October.
The band have earned a reputation as one of the city’s most compelling indie bands, known for their evocative soundscapes and emotionally charged performances. Their music blends intricate melodies with introspective lyrics, creating an atmosphere that pulls listeners in from the first note.
Frequently praised for their ability to craft songs that resonate on both a personal and universal level, they’ve been described as “a band that wears their heart on their sleeve” by fans and critics alike. With their new material set to make waves, Parliament Square is a shining example of Limerick’s thriving music scene.
They’ll be supported by The Endless Parade, a Kerry-based duo comprised of songwriters and producers Gary Landers and Mikey Maguire. Their debut single ‘Amsterdam’ was released in July, giving Limerick audiences a sneak preview of their highly anticipated album Take Me to Your Leader whish is one of the best things we’ve heard this year.
With contributions from members of Hamsandwich and Basciville, this performance is expected to be an emotional and powerful conclusion to the Wired FM gig series. 9pm doors, and free in.
