New voluntary based community group Womens Shed Limerick is holding an information evening at the Garryowen Rugby Club on Thursday, June 16 at 7 pm.
The idea for the women’s shed came from the founder of the ‘Walking Buddies’ group in Raheen and Emer Scully and Sinead O’Beirne-Brinn who teaches Yoga in the Men’s Shed and felt the need for more services to be made available to women in Limerick.
The aim of the new women’s shed is to make it as easy as possible for any like-minded group of women of any age to set up, run and maintain a women’s shed in Limerick to help combat rural and social isolation.
The women’s shed will provide a place for women to talk and contribute where practical skills and knowledge can be shared. Well-being will be promoted in the shed by encouraging members to keep physically, mentally, and socially active.
The women’s shed will be available to all women in Limerick, of all ages and backgrounds who wish to come together to support, socialise and learn new skills together and has a committee of seven officials. They have had several committee meetings and have previously visited other sheds.
The information night will be the first public evening to test the level of interest among local women when setting up the shed.
The night is free of charge and will showcase the different types of activities that will be available as different ones will take place each week.
So far activities available will be; Yoga, Baking, Home DIY, Car Maintenance, Mountaineering, IT, Crochet, Card Games, Fitness, Health, Mindfulness, Music, Art and more. Day trips and weekend trips are also among those to be organised by the women’s shed.
The women’s shed incentive is an amazing opportunity for the women of Limerick to be able to have an outlet with other women where they will learn new hobbies and skills together.
