In an effort to highlight the importance of reading and celebrating World Book Day 2020 in Ireland on Thursday, March 5, 2020, Sarah Corbett Lynch has been providing free readings to children while on her midterm break. 

Sarah visited a number of crèches to volunteer readings of her book ‘Noodle Loses Dad’ to demonstrate the importance of reading to children.

Over the last 23 years, World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading.

Sarah who is the author of ‘Noodle Loses Dad’ which she self-published, spent time visiting and reading to groups of over 30 mesmerised children at a time. 

Sarah is passionate that children learn the importance of reading and expressing themselves saying, “many children do not have access to books in their homes. I love to read even though I have and continue to struggle with reading” 

Sarah says she has learned a lot from books and finds it healthy to read, learn and speak about difficult subjects such as grief and loss commenting, “It is an important part of life for me to talk about our feelings.  

We need our mind healthy and to be aware of how important it is to process our feelings in a healthy way no matter what age we are.” 

One recent reading was particularly special to Sarah. Daydreams were the former Creche owned by her Mother, Margaret Mags Fitzpatrick who passed away when Sarah was just 12 weeks old. 

Upon entering the foyer of Daydreams a picture or her Mother is proudly displayed amidst children’s paintings and drawings of the week. 

Sarah said she really enjoyed reading to the kids commenting, “I was so happy they enjoyed it, they really listened and they were all so chatty afterwards. 

I was more nervous than going on the Late Late as the kids are a tougher audience than adults! It was really lovely though, they had lots of questions and particularly loved receiving their Boogawooga stickers. I felt very honoured to be able to have the experience.”
