The World Masters Mountain Running Championships were held in Meduno, Italy, over 3 days with three Limerick men sharing success at the event

The World Masters Mountain Running Championships were held in Meduno, Italy, over three days. Meduno represents the gateway to Val Tramontina, located at 313 m above sea level, it is made up of various villages, the highest of which is Borgo Cilia, at an altitude of 555 m above sea level.
On Friday, the vertical race was a 5k uphill with 800 meters in Elevation gain to the top saw three Limerick men celbrate their success, John Kinsella of Back 2 Boston Running Club, led the Irish M45 team to a silver medal in the team event, the team also featured Limerick’s, Sean Quirke of Bilboa AC, and Ciaran Steed, Host nation Italy took the win and Great Britain were 3rd. Limerick Man Emmett McNamara led the Irish M35 team to a silver medal in the same race.
On Sunday in the Classic race, 15k 850 meters elevation gain, there was more success for the Limerick men as John Kinsella finished in the Top 5 overall and finished runner-up individually, securing an individual silver medal in the M45 category.
That second place finish enabled the Irish team to celebrate another podium by securing second place in the team event, pipping France by 2 points, while Italy again took the win.
Writing on Instagram, John Kinsella said, “Top 5 in the World Masters Mountain Running Championships and runner up in the M45.. another silver medal, First Irish and our team have secured another silver medal with Sean Quirke of Bilboa AC, and Ciaran Steed. Up Limerick, Up Ireland.
In another post, he shared, “Up Limerick! A tough day representing the Irish Masters at the World Masters Championships in Meduno. The World Masters Mountain Running Championships had a high-quality field, but there will be team Silver (M45) and Bronze (m35) heading back to Limerick….and Carlow.”
