yieldHUB has grown from a local startup into a global force, helping the semiconductor industry solve its most complex data challenges
Nearly 20 years ago, while working in a local semiconductor company, John O’Donnell noticed a critical gap in the market. Driven by a vision to address inefficiencies in semiconductor manufacturing, he set out to develop his own data analytics company.
yieldHUB has grown from a local startup into a global force, helping the semiconductor industry solve its most complex data challenges. Today, Mr O’Donnell leads a data analytics company, chosen by semiconductor leaders around the world.
The semiconductor industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, bolstered by initiatives like the EU and US Chips Acts, which will strengthen chip production globally. Revenue in the semiconductor market was anticipated to reach US$607.40bn this year.
In the semiconductor ecosystem, yieldHUB stands out as Ireland’s only semiconductor software supplier for yield improvement, helping manufacturers around the world ensure the efficiency and quality of their microchips.
“Microchips power our daily lives, from the smartphones in our pockets to the safety systems in our cars,” yieldHUB Founder & CEO John O’Donnell said.
“If an airbag doesn’t deploy in a car crash, for example, the cause could be a faulty chip. Our software helps semiconductor manufacturers identify and mitigate issues like these before products hit the market.”
yieldHUB recently won twice at the Asia Matters Business Awards 2024. The awards were for High Potential Asia Market Expansion and Technology Exporter of the Year, a true testament to yieldHUB’s success and to its close ties with Asia and its plans for growth in the region.
yieldHUB started as a multinational company with offices in Ireland and the Philippines and has now expanded across five different countries.
It’s been an exciting year for yieldHUB. The company was named a finalist for the Innovation Impact Business Award by the Limerick Chamber and was also nominated by its UK customers as a finalist for Supplier of the Year at the Annual TechWorks Awards, the official industry body for the UK semiconductor industry.
“What a way to end the year! We are deeply honoured to receive these awards, it reflects nearly two decades of relentless hard work,” Mr O’Donnell said.
“I think one of the reasons why leading semiconductor companies continue to choose yieldHUB is because we’ve always stayed true to our Irish roots and values.
“We take care of our customers. We don’t just want them to have access to the most advanced analytics platform in the market, we also want them to have the best experience and service.”
Despite its global reach, yieldHUB remains deeply committed to Limerick. The company continues to invest in local talent, providing opportunities for engineers and data scientists to contribute to transformative innovations in AI and semiconductor technology.
“Over the past few years, our workforce has grown to nearly fifty worldwide and we are 99% export. We’ve hired locally in the past couple of years in Limerick. We want to continue to support Irish university graduates.
“We have four interns from a range of courses starting in the new year from both UL and UCC.”
