The Limerick and Clare ETB Local Creative Youth Partnership in collaboration with Dreams, Bruff, are calling Limerick and Clare singer-songwriters aged 18 to 25 to apply to their Young Dreams Showcase on Sunday, September 5. The event will be streamed online from the Morning Star Park in Bruff to remember Dolores O’Riordan’s 50th birthday. 

Awards will be available for those selected to participate, including a recording session in the studio of Limerick Learning Hub, mentorships with established music artists, vouchers for music shops, and more. 

Young Dreams is a collaboration between the Local Creative Youth Partnership, Bruff Community Council and Dreams Festival Bruff. Additional support, which is greatly appreciated, is being provided by Bruff GAA Pitch and the JP McManus Benevolent Fund.

The Dreams Festival began in 2019 to remember O’Riordan a year after her unfortunate passing. The first festival showcased a mix of artists on an outdoor stage and in multiple indoor venues. In addition to live music, there were talks, community music gatherings, comedy, cabaret, and spoken word acts. 

At the 2019 festival, the town of Bruff renamed the Morning Star Park to the Dolores O’Riordan Park on Friday, September 6, 2019. 

In 2020, the festival hosted ‘Dreams from the Castle,’ a virtual event hosted on the Dreams 2020 Facebook page. 

The event was filmed previously at King John’s Castle and featured musicians and familiar Limerick faces who came together to celebrate Dolores’ life and legacy. 

‘Dreams from the Castle’ was sparked by Dolores’ brother Brendan with the help of friends and local business people and aims to mark his sister’s birthday by showcasing all Limerick has to offer through art, music and its historical sights. The event featured many tributes to the star.

Dolores, who tragically passed away in January of 2018, was the lead singer with The Cranberries, a band that rose to international success in the early 90’s, selling over 40 million albums worldwide. Dolores was a prolific songwriter and also enjoyed a hugely successful solo career in the early 2000s.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, August 25, at 5pm. A maximum of ten young artists will be selected by an independent panel of assessors.
